Arkansas Chapter of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners
About Us
The Arkansas Chapter of the ACFE is chapter #84 and serves all of Central Arkansas as well as other areas around the State.  Our Chapter hosts an annual two day Fraud Conference once a year with speakers that cover various topics including fraud schemes and investigations, federal, state and local government frauds, banking and mortgage frauds, internal audit and internal control matters, and forensic accounting and other litigation related matters just to name a few.  Our membership base includes employees from a wide variety of organizations including many federal, state and local governments and agencies, private investigators, CPA firms, public and privately held corporations, banks and financial institutions, and many more.

Scholarship Program

In addition to our annual Fraud Conference, our Chapter also strives to encourage our young members and future members through a scholarship program.  Annually, prior to the start of the summer quarter, students in accounting and related programs, as well as law enforcement or criminal justice programs are encouraged to apply for a scholarship from the Chapter.  One scholarship each year is specifically designated for a law enforcement or criminal justice student, while up to five other scholarships are awarded to accounting and related program students.  Each scholarship candidate is required to write a letter to the scholarship committee and include a short narrative describing their needs and why they are applying for the scholarship, and their future career goals or aspirations.  A transcript (official or unofficial) must also be included with the letter to the scholarship committee.  Each scholarship is a one-time award, but candidates may reapply on an annual basis.  Click here for the announcement that was sent to colleges and universities in the area and around the state.

CFE Scholarship Program

The Arkansas Chapter launched a pilot program in 2012 to reimburse active chapter members for all, or a portion of, the study materials and/or the cost of taking the CFE examination.  An application was made available to any member who was interested in applying for this reimbursement program.  (click here to launch the electronic application)  Deadline to submit an application for this year's scholarships is November 20, 2015.

The Chapter allocated funds in 2012 for the first year of this program, and we are very pleased to announce that we have awarded scholarships to three very well qualified members.  The winners of the 2012 CFE Scholarships were:

Michelle Atchley - a Supervising Senior Auditor in the Fraud/Investigations section at the Arkansas Division of Legislative Audit for the past six years, Michelle is also a member of the Fraud Work Group that meets quarterly to discuss fraud in the State of Arkansas. This group consists of officers/agents from the FBI, Arkansas State Police, and Internal Revenue Service.

Matthew Shane Benbrook - an Internal Audit Manager with the Arkansas Department of Health for the past three years, Shane has 18 years of audit experience and has been a speaker at the past two chapter fraud conferences.  One of his recent investigations resulted in a former employee receiving 20 years in jail.

Meredith Hicks - a Compliance Specialist at Simmons First National Corporation for the past four years, Meredith has five years of auditing, accounting and loss prevention work experience.

All three recipients are well deserving of this award and expressed a strong desire to take their careers to the next level by obtaining the CFE designation.  Please join me in congratulating this year's CFE scholarship winners, and wish them good luck in completing the certification process!

If you have any questions, or know of someone who might me interested in this program, please email or contact Shane Benbrook or Al Malzewski

Many of our members are asked to speak at various accounting, law enforcement, government and other industry conferences, seminars, chapter meetings and events.  If you are interested in having a member speak at an event, please contact our Chapter leadership or use the Contact Us page to provide details of your request.
